Time is on Locke-Ober’s side. Having stood in the same location on Winter Place since 1875, this Brahmin institution has learned to season its classic chowder to perfection. The ober’s mahogany interior calls to mind a Henry James novel, but there is nothing staid about the chowder: mellow hints of citrus and thyme mix beautifully with the salty flavor of Atlantic clams.
